Student Research Award Supplement (SRAS)

About this program

The Tobacco-Related Disease Research Program (TRDRP) offers Student Research Award Supplements to support undergraduate, master’s, and pre‑candidacy doctoral student research and mentoring by providing supplemental funding to active TRDRP awards in priority research areas. Eligible mentors are PIs of Research, Pilot, or New Investigator awards or Co‑PIs of Community‑Partnered Participatory Research Awards and Partnered MSCI awards; the parent award must be a non‑mentored TRDRP grant with at least one year remaining (no‑cost extensions are ineligible), and trainees must reside in California and not hold an advanced degree. Supplements provide up to $20,000 (direct costs) per year for up to two years to cover trainee salaries, fringe, tuition/enrollment fees, supplies, and domestic travel (equipment and indirect costs are not allowed); travel limits include $750 for the TRDRP conference and up to $2,000/year for other scientific conferences.
