SWS Feminist Mentoring Award

About this program

Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) offers the Feminist Mentoring Award (est. 1990) to recognize an outstanding feminist mentor for activities such as guidance on feminist concerns, support for writing and teaching, strategies for balancing family and work, confronting institutional gendered biases, and promoting inclusion; benefits include recognition at the SWS Winter Conference, a $250 award check, up to $500 travel stipend, up to three early-career SWS memberships for new members, and a lifetime SWS membership for the recipient. Nominations must be submitted by an SWS member for a nominee who has held SWS membership for at least three years (membership need not be consecutive); current SWS officers/officers-elect and Gender & Society editors are ineligible. Complete applications are submitted via the SWS Member Portal and must include the candidate CV, a nomination letter (maximum five pages), and up to ten support letters (group letters permitted), with preference given to nominations supported by multiple members; awardees are notified by late summer.
