TED Earth Science Teacher Leader Award

About this program

The National Association of Geoscience Teachers’ Teacher Education Division (NAGT TED) offers the annual TED Earth Science Teacher Leader Award to recognize outstanding K–12 educators who demonstrate leadership in Earth science education; nominees receive a certificate of recognition and one candidate is chosen as the annual awardee (no monetary prize specified). Eligible applicants are K–12 teachers or educators working in public, private, or charter schools, afterschool programs, informal education venues, science-focused camps, or homeschooling organizations using state standards; U.S. nominees should be appropriately licensed or pursuing credentials, and international applicants must document equivalent professional credentials. Candidates must satisfy at least seven of the ten published Earth Science Teacher Leader criteria (e.g., NGSS-aligned practices, mentorship, collaboration, diversity/equity/inclusion, advocacy) and submit a two-step nomination (online form—self-nominations permitted—followed by committee review, which may request supporting materials). Nominations are typically due April 1, with selection in autumn and award announcements in the spring.
