Tennessee Rural Residency Incentive Program — stipend for primary care residents committing to rural Tennessee practice

About this program

The Tennessee Center for Health Workforce Development offers the Tennessee Rural Residency Incentive Program, providing stipend support to primary care physicians training in Tennessee residency programs or training out-of-state with Tennessee affiliations in exchange for a commitment to practice in rural Tennessee. Stipends are $105,000 for residents in three-year primary care residencies and $140,000 for those in four-year programs, with recipients required to provide one year of service in a rural Tennessee practice for each year of stipend accepted. Eligible applicants are physicians training in Tennessee programs or with a Tennessee-affiliated training site; residents not in their final year may apply at any time while final-year residents must submit applications by December 31 (annual), and applications are available via the program website.
