The Carl Gans Award (Division of Comparative Biomechanics, SICB)

The Division of Comparative Biomechanics (DCB) of the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) administers the Carl Gans Awards, given annually (up to one per category) to recognize an outstanding young investigator in comparative biomechanics and an investigator of any career stage for a significant literature contribution published in the previous five years. Awards may include a plaque or certificate, possible travel reimbursement to the SICB meeting, a featured lecture by the Young Investigator, and occasional thematic augmentations (e.g., support for field/lab work or international collaborations) depending on available funds. Candidates must be SICB members; Young Investigator nominees must have earned their doctorate within the past seven years, Bartholomew Award recipients are ineligible, and young investigator and literature nominees may be nominated or self‑nominate up to three times. Nominations are submitted via the SICB Gans Award web forms and are due annually on September 10, with winners chosen by a 3–5 member committee appointed by the DCB Chair.
