The Charlie Bates Research Award

About this program

The American Physiological Society (APS) offers the Charlie Bates Research Award, an annual abstract-based honor established in 2022 to recognize an outstanding abstract submitted to the American Physiology Summit by a scientist who identifies as LGBTQ+ or is a demonstrated ally; the recipient receives a $1,000 honorarium and reimbursement/complimentary early registration to attend the APS annual meeting. The awardee must attend the Summit; the award cannot be deferred and is contingent upon available funding. Applicants must be APS members in good standing, identify as LGBTQ+ or as a demonstrated ally, and have submitted an abstract to the Summit; applications are submitted online and must include the abstract(s), a CV, and a one-page (250-word) summary of service to the LGBTQIA+ community (if any).
