The Howard Fund — AYRS grants for practical nautical projects

The Howard Fund, a legacy of approximately £42,000 from Donald Howard administered by the Amateur Yacht Research Society (AYRS), provides about £5,000 per year in small grants to support practical projects that advance nautical science and knowledge. Awards are made on merit and according to need following review by the AYRS Committee and any appointed expert panel, with final decisions at committee meetings held roughly every three months. Only paid-up AYRS members may apply; committee members, their families, close associates and anyone involved in decision-making are ineligible. Applications (no fixed deadline) must be sent to the AYRS Chairman via the AYRS contact page and include name/address plus a publishable project summary outlining the project, its contribution to nautical science, progress to date, and how requested funds will be used.
