The Kavli Foundation Early Career Lectureship in Materials Science

The Materials Research Society, supported by The Kavli Foundation, presents the Kavli Foundation Early Career Lectureship in Materials Science to honor an early-career researcher for significant novel experimental and/or theoretical contributions; the award includes a $1,000 cash prize, a trophy, and two nights’ hotel to present a lecture at the MRS Fall Meeting. Nominees of any nationality working in materials science (need not be MRS members) should be within 10 years of receiving a Ph.D. — with discretionary exceptions for career interruptions due to family/medical leave or military service — and must hold a non-postdoctoral permanent position (assistant/associate/full professor or equivalent national-lab/industry staff) while demonstrating notable leadership and a promising research trajectory. Nominations are submitted via the MRS Awards portal and must include nominator and nominee contact details, Ph.D. date and institution, a signed 200-word letter of recommendation on letterhead, a two-page CV, and a one-page summary of contributions and service; subcommittee members, MRS Board members, the Awards Chair, and prior recipients are ineligible.
