The Myrna F. Bernath Book Award

About this program

The Myrna F. Bernath Book Award, administered by the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) and established by the Bernath family and SHAFR Council, awards $2,500 biennially (even years) to the author of the best book by a woman, non-binary, and/or trans scholar in U.S. foreign relations and related fields. Eligible books must have been published during the preceding two calendar years and authors should work in U.S. foreign relations, transnational/international history, peace studies, cultural interchange, or defense/strategic studies; SHAFR membership is required. Nominations may be submitted by the author, the publisher, or any SHAFR member and must include a letter of nomination plus three copies (or page proofs) of the book; the deadline is 1 February in even-numbered years.
