Norman and Laura Graebner Award

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) offers the Norman and Laura Graebner Award biennially, providing $2,000 to honor a senior scholar whose lifetime contributions have advanced the study of U.S. foreign relations through scholarship, teaching, and/or professional service. Eligible nominees are distinguished scholars of diplomatic or international affairs who have demonstrated excellence in historical approaches to international affairs; academic historians are not the only eligible candidates. Nominations, including self-nominations, must include a detailed letter covering the candidate’s biography, major scholarly works, teaching and career achievements, and professional service, and must be submitted to the Graebner Award Committee by February 1, 2028.
