The Stuart L. Bernath Lecture Prize

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) awards the annual Stuart L. Bernath Lecture Prize to recognize excellence in teaching and research in foreign relations, with a $1,000 prize. The recipient delivers a broad lecture on American foreign policy at the following SHAFR conference, receives up to $500 in travel expenses, and has the lecture published in Diplomatic History. Applicants must be under 40 or within 10 years of receiving their PhD as of June 2027, and nominations may be submitted by SHAFR or other established academic or journalism organizations, or by the candidate. Nominations should include a letter, supporting letters, and the nominee’s CV and must be sent to committee chair Kelly Shannon by February 1, 2027.
