Offered by the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society and administered by the IEEE Foundation, the Thomas W. Dakin Distinguished Technical Contributions Award recognizes outstanding, original technical contributions with sustained impact in dielectrics and electrical insulation. The biennial award includes presentation of the Dakin Lecture at the IEEE Electrical Insulation Conference (or another DEIS conference chosen by the awardee), a $5,000 honorarium (as of 2020) and a plaque; the honorarium is funded by accrued interest from the Dakin Endowment and may be supplemented by IEEE DEIS, while travel to present is not covered. Open to all, recipients are selected by the DEIS Awards and Recognitions Committee and confirmed by the DEIS Administrative Committee.
