Translation Fund

About this program

Creative New Zealand funds the Translation Fund, administered by the Publishers Association of New Zealand (PANZ), to subsidise translation of New Zealand literature into foreign languages, offering grants of up to 50% of translation costs to a maximum of NZ$5,000 per title. Eligible applicants are established foreign publishers purchasing foreign‑language rights with an active backlist of at least four titles, or New Zealand publishers with an established publishing programme and partnerships to translate and distribute works internationally, with no more than two grants awarded per publisher per year. Applications are accepted twice yearly via PANZ (see criteria and application form); applicants must submit signed sales and translation contracts that include a firm commitment to publish and show the translation prior to the printing stage, and projects aligned with Creative New Zealand’s international market development activities are prioritised.
