About this program
The California State Water Resources Control Board’s Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund helps petroleum UST owners and operators meet financial responsibility requirements and reimburses eligible corrective-action costs for unauthorized petroleum releases. Reimbursement is available statewide for reasonable and necessary cleanup expenses, with awards ranging from $1 to $1 million and no matching funds required. Eligible applicants must be current or former owners or operators of the leaking UST, be required by a regulatory agency to conduct corrective action, and submit acceptable invoices and supporting documentation; certain small home-heating oil tanks may also qualify. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.
