Funded by a bequest to the American Psychological Foundation (APF) from Franklyn Springfield and administered by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Springfield LGBTQIA+ Congressional Fellowship supports one psychologist for a one-year congressional placement beginning approximately August 30, 2026 to increase the use of psychological science in government and advance policy affecting LGBTQIA+ health, wellbeing, and civil rights. Fellows may draft legislation, conduct oversight, assist with hearings, and prepare briefs and speeches, and they participate in a two-week congressional orientation plus a yearlong AAAS-administered seminar on science and public policy. Applicants should be psychologists or have a background or strong interest in psychology as it pertains to LGBTQIA+ health and civil rights; the fellowship provides a $93,750 stipend, $3,500 for professional development, and reimbursement for health insurance.
