URM Travel Grants

About this program

The American Economic Association’s Committee on the Status of Minority Groups in the Economics Profession (CSMGEP) offers annual URM Travel Grants to support the career and professional development of junior faculty from groups traditionally underrepresented in economics by defraying costs to attend the ASSA meetings. Awards cover up to $1,000 of eligible expenses (meals, travel, lodging, conference registration) and are awarded based on review of application materials; up to 10 recipients are notified by early December. Eligible applicants are untenured junior economics faculty or junior economists in government, think tanks, or industry who are US citizens, permanent residents, DACA recipients, or other FAFSA‑eligible non‑citizens; required materials are a ≤500‑word cover letter describing how ASSA attendance will support career goals, a short endorsement from the department chair or supervisor, a CV/resume, and a one‑page list of past meetings/events. Applications must be submitted to info@csmgep.org by 5 pm ET on the second Friday in October each year.
