VA AWWA Larry Gordon Safety Award

About this program

VA AWWA presents the Larry Gordon Safety Award to recognize Virginia waterworks facilities that demonstrate active, effective safety programs across source water, treatment, testing, and distribution operations; winners receive recognition at the VA AWWA WaterJAM awards luncheon and are submitted for the national AWWA Wendell LaDue Utility Safety Award (no monetary prize). Eligible applicants are waterworks facilities that are Utility Members of the Virginia Section or have at least one current VA AWWA member employed; facilities that received the award within the previous two years are ineligible. A complete online entry must be submitted by June 30 each year and nominees undergo an interview including an on-site visit and safety program review by the Safety sub-committee; evaluation focuses on a documented facility-specific safety program, maintained life-safety equipment and PPE, documented training and attendance, a strong safety record, and compliance/security on walkthrough.
