Viking Society Research Support Fund

About this program

Viking Society for Northern Research administers the Viking Society Research Support Fund to support research and development in literature, history, language and archaeology of early and medieval Scandinavia and its cultural contacts; grants are awarded by a committee reporting to the Society Council and annual funds are variable, with awards possibly less than requested. Applicants are normally expected to be members of the Viking Society (non-members may be considered in exceptional cases); students may apply for specific project costs but the fund will not provide general degree scholarships. Applications are assessed on scholarly contribution, applicant development, expected benefit to visited groups, practicability and realistic budgets, and must show evidence of having explored other funding; three application rounds are run yearly (1 Feb, 1 May, 1 Oct). Successful applicants must submit final reports and accounts with receipts within three months of incurring expenditure, and publishable outputs should ordinarily be offered to the Society first.
