Virginia Humanities Opportunity Grants

About this program

Virginia Humanities offers Opportunity Grants of up to $5,000 to support focused, public-facing humanities projects by cultural nonprofits, including community history initiatives, exhibitions, forums, educational resources, media projects, and public programs. Projects may run for up to 12 months, with awards paid in full following the decision date; the current application deadline is July 31, 2026. Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofits and other qualifying organizations, which must submit an approved final report before seeking new funding and may not hold another active Virginia Humanities grant. Applicants must apply to only one grant opportunity per cycle, provide required cash and in-kind cost sharing, and may not apply in consecutive cycles after receiving funding.
