Volemos Grant

About this program

Offered by the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) with support from illustrator Angela Dominguez and author Meg Medina, the Volemos Grant annually awards one writer and one illustrator of Hispanic/Latinx/Ibero‑American heritage $500, a one‑year SCBWI membership and a career coaching session. Applicants must be current SCBWI members and have heritage from a defined list of Latinx/Ibero‑American countries or territories; eligible creators are early‑career (not yet traditionally published or with 1–3 traditionally published books), and self‑published work does not count as traditional publication. Writers should submit a full picture‑book manuscript or the first 10 pages of longer work plus a one‑page synopsis, while illustrators should submit a rough picture‑book dummy (full text with sketches) and two finished illustrations; all applicants must include a <250‑word autobiographical statement specifying heritage, may submit in English or Spanish, and submissions are accepted June 1–30.
