Western Michigan University Graduate College Thurgood Marshall Fellowship

About this program

Western Michigan University’s Graduate College offers Thurgood Marshall Fellowships to students whose accomplishments and values reflect those of Thurgood Marshall, providing a stipend, tuition support, and a 10-hour-per-week graduate assistant or doctoral associate appointment. Master’s fellowships support one year with possible renewal for a second year, while doctoral fellowships support one year with possible renewal for up to three additional years. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, apply or be admitted to a WMU master’s or doctoral program, and pursue their first graduate degree with no more than nine WMU graduate credits by the fellowship’s start. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, meet enrollment requirements, and perform satisfactorily; the application deadline is February 10, 2027.
