Wiley-Berger Service Award

About this program

American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and the Wiley-Berger Award for Volunteer Service Fund sponsor an annual award recognizing outstanding volunteer efforts to improve public well-being; the national recipient receives $2,500, reimbursement for AAFCS membership and travel to the AAFCS Annual Conference (up to $1,000), a commemorative token, and publicity. Applicants must be current AAFCS members (national nominees must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents) and must be nominated by a sanctioned AAFCS affiliate, community, committee, or unit (self-nomination allowed); AAFCS Board members, Awards Committee members, employed AAFCS staff, and prior Wiley-Berger recipients are ineligible, and candidates may submit to only one AAFCS award per review cycle. Applications must be submitted as a single English PDF using the official form and include general applicant and nominator information, a 150-word biography, a narrative choice of either Consistent Volunteer Service (covering seven specified areas over the preceding five years) or Special Project (addressing seven specified areas), two letters of support (maximum two pages each), up to three pages of supplemental materials, and a color headshot (PNG/JPEG). As of the application due date applicants must hold one or more AAFCS credentials (CFCS, CFCS-HDFS, CFCS-HNFS, CFCS-Retired, CPFFE, or CNWE).
