William B. Bean Student Research Award

The American Osler Society offers the William B. Bean Student Research Award, a $1,500 stipend to support medical student research in medical history and medical humanities, including projects that use literature and the arts to improve medical education or practice. Applicants must be currently matriculated at accredited medical or osteopathic schools in the United States or Canada, submit only one application per student, and complete the research before graduation (the final report may be submitted within one year after degree completion); projects focused solely on medical ethics are not the primary target. Applications open November 1, 2025 and must be submitted by March 1 for that calendar year; the number of awards varies by merit and available funds, and awardees may receive travel funds and free registration to present at the Society’s annual meeting.
