William R. Cherry Award

Offered by the IEEE Electron Devices Society in conjunction with the IEEE EDS Photovoltaic Specialists Conference, the William R. Cherry Award recognizes an engineer or scientist who has devoted part of their professional career to advancing photovoltaic (PV) energy conversion through significant contributions to PV science and technology. The award includes a photo‑engraved plaque, a $5,000 monetary prize, recognition at the PVSC Opening Ceremony, and a dedicated Cherry Award Talk. Nominations must be submitted by others (self‑nominations are not accepted); nominators may not be previous recipients, members of the Awards Committee, or voting Cherry Award Committee members. Nominees must have substantial publications and presentations, an extended record of activity in PV with contributions to the PVSC and an expectation of continued work (single outstanding contributions or society/organizational service alone are insufficient); unsuccessful nominations carry over once and the annual deadline is January 15.
