Wolf-Livestock Compensation Grant Program

About this program

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife offers the Wolf-Livestock Compensation Grant Program to help livestock producers recover costs associated with direct livestock deaths or injuries caused by confirmed or probable wolf depredation. The state-funded program has approximately $600,000 available, provides reimbursement on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted, and does not require matching funds. Eligible individuals, businesses, nonprofits, public agencies, tribal governments, and other legal entities must have experienced a confirmed or probable wolf depredation on or after July 1, 2024, documented through a CDFW Livestock Loss Determination Form. There are no geographic restrictions, but compensated producers must consult with CDFW on a strategy to reduce future wolf-livestock conflicts.
