Women in Science Mentoring Award

About this program

The American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America, and Soil Science Society of America jointly present the Women in Science Mentoring Award to honor individuals whose mentoring has encouraged women and girls in agronomy, crops, soils, and environmental sciences; the recipient receives $2,000 and a plaque to be presented at the Women in Science event during the societies' Annual Meetings. Selection emphasizes demonstrated leadership and sustained mentoring—such as advancing women into academic, government, or industry positions, supporting publication/presentation and financial aid access, and providing career guidance and work–life balance strategies. Nominations are accepted January through March 25 (year variable); nominators must be ASA, CSSA, or SSSA members while nominees need not be members but must be living and not prior recipients; members of the Awards Committee and the societies’ Boards are ineligible as nominators, nominees, or references. Required materials are a nominator letter documenting mentoring, the nominee’s CV with recent publications/achievements, a short summary of contributions to advancing women in the sciences, and two outside letters of recommendation from ASA/CSSA/SSSA members.
