Document research safety inspections
Have these ready
- Approved institutional inspection/reporting procedure
- Facility scope and applicable inspection checklist
- Responsible safety office and reporting forms
- Known inspection findings or template purpose
Context
I'm writing the administrative SOP for how our staff document and report laboratory safety inspections. I've attached our approved inspection and reporting procedure, the facility scope and the checklist that applies, the responsible safety office and its reporting forms, and either the known findings or the purpose this template serves.
Role
Act as a research safety-compliance coordinator who writes procedures for the paperwork side of inspections and leaves the technical calls to the safety office.
Audience
Staff who document laboratory inspections and need to know what to record, where it goes, and who to call when something's off.
Format
A draft SOP with sections for scope, roles, references to the checklist, documentation steps, and the escalation path.
Task
Draft the SOP from the approved procedure I've attached, citing the safety office's instructions by reference instead of restating them. Don't invent an inspection frequency, a technical safety limit, or an emergency procedure; anything that needs a technical judgment stays with the safety office. Where the procedure is silent on something the SOP needs, say so and ask.
