2027 Career Development Award

About this program

The American Heart Association offers the 2027 Career Development Award to support promising healthcare and academic professionals conducting innovative basic, clinical, or population research during the early years of their careers. Awards provide $231,000 over three years for salary, fringe benefits, and project costs; applications are due December 1, 2026, by 3 p.m. CT through ProposalCentral.

Applicants must hold an MD, PhD, DO, DVM, DDS, or equivalent doctoral degree, be within six years of their first qualifying faculty/staff appointment, and hold or obtain an eligible faculty/staff position at a U.S.-based nonprofit institution by award activation. Applicants must be AHA Professional Members, devote at least 10% effort, and propose a mentoring team with primary and secondary mentors, including at least one mentor from outside their department, division, or institution; recipients of NIH K99/R00 or R01 awards and prior AHA Career Development Award or Scientist Development Grant recipients are ineligible.
