About this program

The Arts Foundation for Tucson and Southern Arizona, in partnership with the Pima County Health Department, is commissioning an artist or artist team for the 2026 SaludArte public art project to lead a paid cohort of community members with lived experience of substance misuse to co-create work that reduces stigma, builds connections, and promotes access to harm reduction resources, with a public presentation slated for Summer 2026. The fast-track engagement requires mandatory meetings and completion within the project period; acceptable media include temporary/site-responsive installations, performance, film/digital storytelling, sound, murals, participatory practices, and hybrid approaches that prioritize shared authorship and accessibility, and an all‑inclusive maximum budget covers artist fees and all production/installation costs while partner organizations provide stipends for community participants. Eligible applicants are artists or artist teams aged 18+ who reside in Arizona and have experience teaching or working with community; applications (via Submittable) must be completed by the artist or team lead and include a 300‑word artist statement, a 200‑word background, a two‑page resume, and six work samples, with the team lead serving as payee and point of contact. Selection is by a cohort panel of community members with lived experience; three finalists will be interviewed and give a brief presentation, and Arts Foundation employees, board members, and immediate family are prohibited from applying.
