About this program

The Aquatic Plant Management Society (APMS), with support from regional chapters, offers the Michael D. Netherland Graduate Student Research Grant for research on aquatic plant or algae management and ecology. For the 2027–28 cycle, the grant provides $55,000 over two years, with preference for proposals focused on the Southeast; otherwise, the award is $40,000. Applicants must be full-time faculty members or graduate students at accredited U.S. academic institutions, and graduate student applicants must identify a faculty sponsor. Research should address aquatic plant management techniques or the biology and management of nuisance macrophytes, algae, or cyanobacteria.
