About this program
The American Academy of Religion (AAR) offers individual research grants of $500–$5,000 to support essential research activities, including fieldwork and travel to archives or libraries. Applicants must be current AAR members in good standing who have completed a doctorate and must submit a focused project description, budget and timeline, CV, abstract, and signed consent form through the online system. Applicants who received an AAR research grant within the previous five years are ineligible, and funds may not support overhead, donations, or unrelated conference travel.
