AAR International Collaborative Research Grants

About this program

The American Academy of Religion (AAR), through its International Connections Committee, offers grants of $500–$5,000 to support collaborative research projects in any area of religious studies involving scholars from different geographical regions. Funds may cover project expenses such as communication and research-related travel, excluding indirect costs and travel to the AAR Annual Meeting. Teams must include at least two collaborators, with at least one holding a doctorate, and apply through an AAR member serving as Primary Contact; at least one additional collaborator must also maintain AAR membership. Applicants may be emerging, established, or independent scholars, but cannot participate on multiple teams or have received an AAR research grant in the previous year.
