About this program

The Japan Foundation and the Social Science Research Council jointly sustain the Abe Fellows Network and offer collaborative grants, the SSRC‑JFNY Japan Global Workshop, and the Abe Fellows Global Forum to support international, policy‑relevant comparative and transnational research, training, and dissemination. Funding and programming are designed to foster new collaborative projects, innovative research, and mentoring that link established Abe Fellows with a younger generation of researchers, policy practitioners, and journalists whose work engages Japan. Eligible participants are primarily members of the Abe Fellows Network (alumni of the Abe Fellowship Program, 1991–2022), with projects encouraged to include early‑career scholars, practitioners, or journalists working on Japan‑related global issues.
