About this program

The Adolph & Esther Gottlieb Foundation offers the Emergency Grant to provide one-time interim financial assistance (maximum $15,000; typical award $5,000) to painters, printmakers, and sculptors confronting unforeseen catastrophic incidents such as fire, flood, or emergency medical needs. Applications are accepted continuously with no deadlines, reviewed on receipt (full review generally ~4 weeks) and urgent/imminent situations given priority, though awards are subject to a fixed annual appropriation. Applicants must demonstrate at least ten years’ involvement in a mature phase of their work and show they lack the resources to address the emergency. Requests for dental work, chronic situations, capital improvements, projects, general indebtedness, or COVID-19 income replacement are ineligible, and second-party requests are accepted only when the applicant is physically unable to communicate.
