Advancing the Tradition

About this program

The Institute for Humane Studies offers Advancing the Tradition grants to support faculty research that advances the liberal intellectual tradition, particularly projects that bridge disciplines. Funded deliverables may include peer-reviewed publications, policy white papers, or shareable research databases, and awardees may participate in follow-up programming. Applicants should be affiliated with an accredited college or university; independent scholars are generally ineligible, though exceptions may be considered for exceptional projects. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and grants cannot cover institutional overhead or indirect costs.
