A.E. Bennett Basic Research Award (Society of Biological Psychiatry)

The Society of Biological Psychiatry's A.E. Bennett Basic Research Award awards a $5,000 prize to recognize and encourage early‑career investigators conducting basic research in biological psychiatry. Applicants need not be Society members but must meet one of two early‑career criteria: be under age 45 on January 1 of the award year, or have no more than 10 years of research experience since completion of their terminal degree or formal clinical/fellowship training. Nominations are accepted only from Department Chairs (chairs may nominate multiple candidates) and the nominee must submit a package via the conference submissions portal including a chair nomination letter (≤2 pages), two support letters (≤2 pages each, one from a Society member), a biosketch (≤5 pages), and a document listing three key publications (preferably with the nominee as first or senior/corresponding author). The A.E. Bennett Award Committee evaluates significance, originality, and independence of the candidate's research and recommends recipients to the SOBP Council for final approval.
