Psychology has an unusually dense network of small funders. The median award is $1,200, the lowest of any discipline here, because most of what psychology societies offer is a small research grant, a travel award or a named prize rather than a project grant.
That is a feature. Small awards have small applicant pools, short applications and fast decisions, and several in a year add up to real support for a graduate student or an early-career researcher. Psi Chi alone runs more open programs than any other sponsor here, restricted to members of a society most psychology students already belong to.
Read moreShow less
The sponsor list is mostly the American Psychological Association's divisions and their foundations, plus the specialist societies: the Society for the Teaching of Psychology, the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, the Society of Pediatric Psychology. Divisional awards are among the most winnable money in the field and the least advertised outside the division.
Nearly two thirds carry a dated deadline, a higher share than most disciplines, which makes this list easy to plan around.
