About this program

The African American Unity Fund, part of the Omaha Community Foundation’s Community Interest Funds, provides grants to initiatives that benefit the African American community in Douglas, Sarpy, and Pottawattamie Counties, prioritizing arts and culture, basic human needs, community development, health and wellness, and capacity building; funding decisions are made by a resident-led committee and collaborative, multi-organization projects are encouraged. Up to $225,000 is awarded annually (individual requests up to $30,000; average awards $10,000–$15,000); applications are submitted via the online portal Jan 1–Mar 1, awards are announced in May, and projects must be completed within the award year. Eligible applicants are public 501(c)(3) organizations or projects using a 501(c)(3) fiscal agent, must have annual operating budgets of $500,000 or less (no exceptions), serve African Americans in the specified counties, submit an anti-discrimination policy, and previous grantees may reapply only after submitting their final report.
