AIA Publication Subvention Grant

About this program

The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) offers Publication Subvention Grants to subsidize production of scholarly archaeological books—particularly by first-time authors, final site reports, or works requiring enhanced visual components, reproduction rights, or other production costs unlikely to generate adequate return. Applicants must complete Form I (author contact information and CV) and the publisher must complete Form II (technical and production details) and upload PDFs including a ~25‑page sample, ~10 sample illustrations, a publisher nomination letter stating the requested sum and use of funds, and signed readers’ reports (no more than three years old) plus the author’s responses. Grants are partial subsidies: a substantial portion of production costs must be met by the publisher or other sources, and overheads of parent organizations are not eligible; readers’ reports cannot be from the author’s dissertation adviser or other interested parties. All materials must be uploaded as PDFs via Form II by March 1 and submissions must adhere to the AIA Publications Policy; questions to fellowships@archaeological.org.
