About this program
The Society for Ethnomusicology awards the Alan Merriam Prize annually to recognize the most distinguished English-language monograph in ethnomusicology published as an author’s second or later monograph; the recipient receives $300. Eligible books must have been published within the previous two years and must be single-author monographs rather than second editions, edited collections, or textbooks. Self-nominations, press nominations, and committee nominations are accepted, with applicants limited to one title per cycle and required to submit four hard or digital copies by April 1.
