Alate Award

About this program

Entomological Society of America offers the Alate Award to fund travel and meeting expenses (airfare, up to five nights’ hotel, meeting registration, ground transportation reimbursement, and a per diem) for five students—plus one Plant‑Insect Ecosystems‑sponsored student—to attend and present at the ESA Annual Meeting, with mentorship from the Diversity & Inclusion committee. Eligible applicants are current ESA student members (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) enrolled at an HBCU or other MSI listed in the MSI Eligibility Matrix who are conducting entomology or entomology‑related research and who plan to present a 10‑minute talk, poster, or infographic. Nominations (including up to two self‑nominations per year) are submitted electronically via the Alate Award nomination website and must include a cover letter/personal statement, one letter of recommendation, presentation plan (title/subtopic/authors/abstract), unofficial transcript, and CV/resume; nominators and nominees must sign a professional conduct disclosure and submit files in PDF/TIF/JPG format.
