American/Canadian/Mexican Water Landmarks Award

About this program

The American Water Works Association (AWWA) recognizes and helps preserve American, Canadian, or Mexican water landmarks at least 50 years old that have had a direct and significant relationship with water supply, treatment, distribution, or technological development; awardees receive a country-specific certificate and a bronze plaque/sculpture (no monetary prize). Eligible landmarks must be tangible, permanent, nonexpendable properties (e.g., buildings, dams, reservoirs, towers—not machinery or natural resources), be well maintained, and have documented community or regional recognition. Nominations require an entry form with written background, original photo, supporting photos/drawings/plans and evidence of recognition submitted to the AWWA Section where the landmark is located; the Section must approve and forward the nomination to the AWWA Water Landmarks Committee, and submissions received by November 1 are assured full consideration.
