ANZSCDB Early-Career Researcher Awards

About this program

ANZSCDB (the Australia & New Zealand Society for Cell and Developmental Biology) offers the Early-Career Researcher Awards to support post-PhD researchers (up to 5 years full-time equivalent) pursuing independent careers in cell and developmental biology in Australia and New Zealand; up to two awards are made each round (one for Cell Biology, one for Developmental Biology) and winners receive a certificate, an invited talk at a Society-related meeting, and reimbursement of attendance costs up to $1,000. Applicants must have worked no more than five years FTE in a post-PhD research position at the close of nomination and have been a financial ANZSCDB member for at least one year; candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by any financial member. Selection is by the ANZSCDB Committee and President, weighted 40% scientific achievements, 40% leadership/engagement/mentorship, and 20% national/international profile, with assessment made relative to opportunity (accounting for interruptions, part-time FTE, caregiving, teaching/administrative duties and COVID impacts). Required materials are a two-page statement addressing the selection criteria, a short statement on opportunity issues and FTE calculation, an annotated list of up to five significant post-PhD publications, and a full CV; a minimum pool of four candidates is needed for a valid competition and the Society may award joint winners or withhold awards.
