AOGS Axford Medal — Award for excellence in geoscience

About this program

Offered by the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS), the Axford Medal recognizes an individual for outstanding achievements in geosciences—including planetary and solar system science—and for unselfish cooperation and leadership in Asia and Oceania; the recipient receives a fixed USD 2,500 reimbursement package for travel-related expenses and exemption from the annual meeting registration fee. Selection criteria (of equal weight) include sustained leadership in national and international research programs, a sustained record of high-profile publications and demonstrable research impact, wider peer recognition, and mentorship of early career scientists. Eligible nominees are individual scientists; self-nomination is not permitted and nominators must provide a nomination letter (≤2 pages), a list of selected publications (≤2 pages), a ~2-page CV, and three supporting reference letters with supporting letters from outside the nominee’s home country. Complete nominations are submitted online via the MARS system, are retained for up to three years for reconsideration, and the Award Committee submits ranked recommendations to Council at least three months prior to the AOGS Annual General Meeting where the medal is conferred.
