APS International Research Travel Award Program (IRTAP)

About this program

The APS Forum on International Physics (FIP) offers the International Research and Travel Award Program (IRTAP) to promote collaborations between physicists in high‑income and lesser‑resourced (developing) countries by reimbursing up to $2,200 for travel and lodging for visits to a collaborator abroad. Applicants must be two co‑applicants who both hold doctoral degrees in physics, with one an FIP member and the other based in a developing/lesser‑resourced country; preference is given to existing collaborations and to travel from lesser‑resourced countries to high‑income countries. Applications must include a narrative describing each principal’s role, expertise/facilities and origin of the collaboration, up to five relevant publications per co‑applicant, a statement of other financial support, indication of the FIP member, an outline of benefits to junior scientists from the lesser‑resourced country, and a travel plan and budget; awards must be used within two years and are reviewed on merit, need, and leverage.
