145 open programsCatalog updated
Physics funding in the private sector is thinner than in the life sciences, and it concentrates in society prizes, travel support and education programs rather than research grants.
The American Geophysical Union runs the largest block here, followed by the American Association of Physics Teachers. That pairing tells you where the non-federal money is: earth and space science, and physics education. The American Physical Society, the American Astronomical Society and its High Energy Astrophysics Division, the IEEE Photonics Society and the Planetary Society make up most of the rest.

General awards and prizes are about half the hub. The median award is $3,000, and a named prize with no money attached is common enough to expect rather than be surprised by. Those prizes still matter for promotion files and for later applications.
Undergraduates and postdocs are eligible for more of these programs than faculty. Astronomy, astrophysics, geophysics and earth and space science are all included here.
