Arthur C. Guyton Awards for Excellence in Integrative Physiology

The American Physiological Society offers the annual Arthur C. Guyton Award for Excellence in Integrative Physiology to support an independent investigator (no higher than assistant professor or equivalent) whose work uses feedback control system theory and quantitative/mathematical modeling to study physiological systems; the award includes a $10,000 honorarium for research (no indirect costs), reimbursement for early registration to the American Physiology Summit, and a certificate. Applicants must be regular APS members in good standing for at least two consecutive years and may be of any residency or nationality; one award is presented annually and the awardee is expected to attend the Summit. Applications are accepted online and must include a description of current and pending research (≤3 pages), a one‑page justification linking the program to the award intent, an NIH‑style biosketch (≤5 pages), a list of current/pending support, copies of abstracts submitted to the APS annual meeting, a letter of recommendation from a department chair/administrator/mentor, and at least one letter of support; selection is made by the APS Awards Committee and is contingent on funding.
