Arthur James Boucot Research Grants

About this program

The Paleontological Society’s Arthur James Boucot Research Grants provide individual awards (program total $30,000; typical awards ≈USD 5,000, with awards up to USD 30,000 possible) to support original early-career research in morphology, taxonomy, and biostratigraphy—preferably with significant fieldwork—and may fund travel, field research, and equipment (funds may not be used for institutional overhead, publication costs, or modeling studies reliant on fossil/modern databases). Eligible applicants are early-career paleontologists (postdoctoral researchers, pre-tenure assistant professors, and other early-career PhD paleontologists) affiliated with universities or equivalent research institutions and are expected to be Paleontological Society members unless extenuating circumstances apply; applicants from countries subject to U.S. OFAC sanctions are excluded. Applications (one per year) require a one-page project description (abstract and methods), a half-page statement of significance, references/figures, a half-page budget and justification, current and pending support, and two signed institutional letters of recommendation submitted by referees; applications and letters are due annually by Feb 1, and awardees must submit a brief research report by May 1 the year following the award.
