ASEEES First Book Subvention Program

About this program

The Association for Slavic, East European, & Eurasian Studies (ASEEES) offers First Book Subvention awards—multiple grants of up to $2,500 each, paid directly to presses—to help cover production costs (copyediting, design/typesetting, e‑book conversion, image preparation, printing, etc.) for individually authored first books that make a substantial scholarly contribution to Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Publishers must apply on behalf of contracted, peer‑reviewed manuscripts in English (edited collections and multi‑author volumes are ineligible); authors must be ASEEES regular or student members for the year of application and at least one prior year (affiliate/joint members are not eligible). Presses may submit no more than two applications per cycle (deadlines Feb 1 and Sep 1) and must supply a ≤1,500‑word overview, author CV, Contents and two sample chapters (including the Introduction if applicable), all peer reviews with responses, agree to acknowledge ASEEES support, provide a copy of the published work, submit an itemized report within two months of publication, and expend awarded funds within two years; decisions are announced 4–6 weeks after each deadline.
