ASES Research Grant (American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons)

About this program

American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) offers seed and start‑up Research Grants to support new investigators in shoulder and elbow research, with awards up to $20,000 (or $10,000 for Candidate/PJI grants) for projects spanning 12–24 months, subject to available philanthropic funding. The PI must be affiliated with a North American institution and an orthopaedic surgeon must serve as PI or co‑PI; Ph.D. or D.V.M. investigators may participate only with a surgeon co‑PI and departmental chair letter, orthopaedic residents/fellows and prior NIH R01 PIs are ineligible, and only one submission per PI and one grant per institution are allowed each year. Applications must include a completed application (electronic preferred), required IRB/IACUC approvals, a statement of the surgeon’s role and percent effort, and comply with strict page/formatting and budget rules (no PI/co‑PI salary, no indirect costs or travel, itemize equipment > $500); awards are paid in installments with interim expenditure reporting and final scientific and lay reports required.
